Yesterday, Sen. Franken went to the floor of the Senate to argue in favor of disaster funding. You can read text of his remarks here: http://franken.senate.gov/?p=news&id=1732
Al, you have amazing speeches on the floor but to be brutally honest your speeches are lacking of emotion. Please, get riled up! Show clear disapointment! This is the future of our country we're talking about!
@Keovar however i will completely agree anyone who uses this term as an excuse to blame natural/manmade disasters on people for beliefs or lifestyles quite frankly needs to get there heads out of the 15th century and then get smacked round the head with a fish.
@Keovar thats the whole point of using that term, it describes something which cant be predicted or completely prevented, while the term "Act of God" might upset atheists (of which i probably could be described as btw, incase your wondering) it is something almost everyone can understand the meaning of, so sorry but i disagree that it is nonsensical or incorrect. Whether you believe in god or not is almost irrelivant in this matter. its just a term of use on legal documents and contracts
"many of the same people who are demanding that we offset the cost of natural disasters, have voted year after year to fund our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, without paying for them"..............Republicans only about bankrupting us with stupid wars, turning America into a police-state, and licking the boots of the super-rich.
Great speech... but could we please stop using the phrase 'act of god'?
It only encourages the fundies / republicans to keep blaming the disasters on socially liberal policies (ie: marriage equality) rather than understanding that these things are just part of living on this world (probably exacerbated by our disruptive influence on the climate) and doing what we can to prepare for them.
Love you Al!

@angel102ify
I know that it's used that way in the US at least, but that doesn't make it any less nonsensical and incorrect..

@Keovar Act of god is a legal term to describe a natural disaster all around the world, its not going away anytime soon.
