Mt. Baker Slush Cup 2011 happend twice this year on Aug. 7 & 20, Later than Normal due to the enormous amount of snow this year. Thank you to everyone that made it happen this year. hope to see ya next year.
History of Slush Cup-
On July 4, 1948, the Koma Kulshan Ski Club organized a giant slalom race and promoted the event as the only ski tournament in the country during the month of July. This was the unofficial beginning of a long tradition of spontaneous and merry July 4th "Slush Cup" events that lasted into the 1980's, until the U.S. Forest Service alleged damage to the alpine environment and shut down the Slush Cup.
Slush Cup—a hybrid sport inspired by the pools of melted snow that gather on the ski runs. Dozens of Slush Cuppers ski or snowboard down the slopes, hit the icy water and hope momentum will carry them across. It seldom does. Some, emerge from their dunking in a statuesque pose. Others, like the skier coming in for a three-point landiing, go down fighting. A few arrive upside down and airborne. So far, no one ever has broken a leg, drowned or frozen to death.
