You use the distributive property first that's why.

either he left out a symbol when he wrote out the base problem, or his answer is wrong. Because he said that the 3 in "5-3(2x+1)>14 was negative, but doesnt 5 - 3 = 2

What if the answer to the second one were to be x is greater than 3? How do you write that? Is it union or intersection?
