Theory lesson. Discussing chord progressions and how they are used. Filmed in 2005. Dan Lefler, Danman's Music School. For the lesson notes and 1000's more piano lessons go to Danmans.com (file: 4148)
The video is correct. Your post is inaccurate and misleading.
1. "TI" is correct in all Anglo-Saxon countries. (wiki "solfege".)
2. It is precisely *because* of the frequency relationships (distance, steps, etc.) that they "have to be". For major scales it's "Major, minor, minor, Major, Major, minor, diminished", just as the video stated.
3. The man said: "... and the 7th is that weird little diminished chord." at 4:27.
Secondly the chords on 2,6 and 3 are minor because of the distance distance between the first two notes is only 1.5 steps as opposed to 2 steps in a major. NOT because 'they have to be'.
Brilliant tutorial

The video is riddled with uninformation.
First of all it is 'si' and not' ti'.
Secondly the chords on 2,6 and 3 are minor because of the distance distance between the first two notes is only 1.5 steps as opposed to 2 steps in a major. NOT because 'they have to be'.
Thirdly chord 7 is diminished in a major scale.
