If you have Bell's Palsy, it is advisable to wear a patch and/or tape over your eye at night while you sleep to protect your eye from potential damage (drying out as well as poking accidents).

This video shows you my routine for protecting my eye at night. With a patch and eye cover.

  • Thanks for the video.. Just woke up this morning with Bells Palsy. Doctor recommends I might need to wear an eye patch at night to keep it closed, so this has helped alot. Thanks again.

  • @Jonny671 ...please take good care of your eye while your eye-lid is still not functioning properly! XOXO I'm glad my video helped!

  • So I got the diagnoses of BP today. They said it was mild and that it should clear up within a week with the corticosteroids they gave me. The left side of my face is the one effected, but it's caused a reaction on the right side. So my left eye blinks and closes just fine, but the right doesn't. Do I have to manually blink my right eye all day? Is it absolutely necessary to have that lube at night? My doc at the er didn't give me a lot of info. I need help understanding all this.

  • @Teazer360 YES! Manually blinking is the only way to keep that eye lubricated... well, unless you buy Lacri-lube and apply it to your eye during the day, like I did. It affects your vision, but better then constantly touching your eye! (Ewww... germs!)

If you do not tape and lube your eye before bed, you run the risk of it staying open all night and a) drying out or b) poking your eye with something causing permanent damage!

For the cost and effort, please do lube your eye before bed!

  • My eye dr. has suggested that he take a couple of stitches in the outer corner of my drooping eye to: 1) lift up the lower lid and 2) create less distance for the upper lid to cover while winking/blinking. Has anyone ever had this done?

  • @lelblair First of all, how long have you had Bell's Palsy? This sounds like a pretty EXTREME option in my opinion.

  • 2IHEARU Yeah! Went yesterday morning and have been prescribed about 25 days of Steriods to take, they said they do Steriods or Anti-Virus as the research hasn't found using both makes too much of a difference. I'm not sure, just going by what they say :)

My eye actually appears to be not too bad, can close it, just very lightly.

    Thanks for your comment!

I have Bell's Palsy too it sucks, lol. I have had is since Dec. 2011. Have you gone to the Dr. yet? If not you need to, as you need to get on steroids and valtrex (anti-viral) also buy some really good gel eye drops and start using them. Let me know. Praying for you. ;0)

  • Jst Pray. Put Yuhr Faith In God And Everything Will Be Okay.

  • @FitGirl15 I'm almost FULLY RECOVERED my face is almost straight when I'm smiling I can blink both and I can lift my eyebrows together TNX. for all the vids.

  • @FitGirl15

Thank you! I have awful vision anyway, so I might not even notice the lube stuff. I might just try that because I have poked myself several times today already from manually blinking it. This sucks, but I am happy as pie to know there are others out there that understand me and know what to do and I can turn to them. I can only hope none of this is permanent.
