This is an odd, spacious little groove, and you'd never guess that it would be perfect for any song... but (like me) you'd be wrong, because it IS perfect! It fits the loose, laid back mood of the track just like a glove. Hunt this song down and listen to Manu's tom, hi-hat and splash cymbal work on that bridge. Wow! Impeccable taste is what sets him apart. That section always reminds me why Manu's probably my second favorite drummer, after Gadd.

If you can find Robbie Robertson's debut, self-titled CD (from around 1986, I think?), your drumming soul will thank you.

The little notes on the hi-hat are important to this song. It's often hard to hear them, but they affect the timing, and add just a bit of tightness to all of the loose, lower-tom chaos.

(And I just realized... I need to tune my lower toms pretty desperately. Sorry! They don't sound nearly as low and out-of-tune from the drum throne.)
