Street Legal drag racing at Castrol Raceway near Edmonton on Sept. 25th, 2009. My black '05 Magnum RT with FRI Sidewinder cam, Mopar headers/high flow cats and Techmotion CMR tune vs. a basically stock Magnum SRT8. Sorry about the lack of audio - I don't know what the heck is going on with my video transfer program. :-\

  • You should be going a lot quicker than that. Perhaps you should swap out the rest of your stock echaust because you can remove over a hundred pounds of weight and have better flow. You should also swap the intake which is the most common upgrades. You must have AWD because the RWD are about 0.3 seconds faster with more wheel spin.

  • @AdamKingM Just to clarify, the exhaust on this RT is Mopar long tube headers w/ high flow cats going into a stock SRT8 cat back. The intake is Mopar CAI into stock throttle body and intake manifold. Also, your info about AWD vs RWD is backwards from what I've seen. AWD has a better gear ratio that usually makes it a bit quicker in the 1/4 even though it's slightly heavier.

  • @CanuckDWfan From what you've "seen?" Seeing is believing? From what I've read and studied, AWD gives the car a slower accelleration because the torque is in all fours rather that the back wheels. Judge for yourself:

    2005 Dodge Magnum R/T AWD 5.9 14.5 (C&D Aug '05)

    2005 Dodge Magnum RT RWD 5.8 14.3 (C&D Online)

Thunderbird Super Coupe Club of Iowa

  • @AdamKingM Yes, what I've personally seen at the track. And unless those two tests you referenced were at the same track at the same time, those numbers are subject to interpretations. NA is so dependant on density altitude that a difference in the quality of air (humidity, barometric pressure, ambient temperature) during the two tests could easily account for a few tenths either way. In any case, we're both just knitpicking anyway.

  • @CanuckDWfan Yeah, we are knitpicking. I brought it up to create good drama and conversation. I understand that you want to defend your car as being AWD. I would, too.

  • @AdamKingM But it's RWD - LOL!

The times on this video aren't typical for either car - my best ET at this track is 13.82 with 104.98 mph trap speed running on those 20"x8.5" chrome rims. When my RT was stock it ran 14.82 sec at 96.xx mph at the same track. The guy with the red SRT8 said his best time was 13.8 sec, which is within about a tenth of what stock SRT8s are running here. The CMR dyno tune on my cammed etc RT resulted in 430 hp at the flywheel. It's just a slow track. *shrugs*

  • @AdamKingM Hey Adam, if you're interested in these cars and don't know about it already, there's a great forum with a HUGE amount of information and thousands of enthusiasts. It's LXForums (Magnums, Chargers, and Chrysler 300s...and Challengers, too). Apparently I can't post a link, but do a search for LXForums and you're there.

I looked at that video you referenced but it didn't show where the track is. It's important to note that this video was shot at Edmonton, Alberta where the altitude is 2210 ft asl and the air was warm and dry. At this track, stock SRT8s consistantly run 13.7s and 13.8's. The fastest time for a stock SRT8 there is ~13.6. Stock R/T's run ~14.8s. Not all tracks are equal, and the air quality is a big factor. Yes, my rims cost me a bit, but the point is I'm running with the 6.1s.

  • @AdamKingM Put this into your search bar CanuckDWfan: Dodge Magnum SRT-8 Drag Test - 13.37 @ 105.42 mph - Road Test TV

  • The other car is a very slow SRT-8. It should be running in the mid 13's.

  • Now that I look back at it, the rims are what slowed you down. They look bigger than stock rims and that can have an effect on your time.
