Before you get all pissed and think I am making fun of the kids - know that my STUDENTS were the ones who told me about how much they dislike having to do this. I am not laughing out of disrespect. Heck, they are nearly all laughing down there as they do this and they only have 2 hour shifts. I have shoveled more snow then I care to remember - so lighten up! I LOVE my students - you would NEVER get American students to pitch in like this! You couldn't get many student here to either - but they don't have a choice. They are not volunteers. Of course they don't like it, nobody would. It is not a Chinese thing - it is a "having to do crappy work" thing. They take it well. The school has no plows or snowblowers. Whenever it snows the leaders gather up a bunch of students and give them brooms and shovels and have them clean all the roads by hand. Who would like that? NOBODY! Though the students are great sports and make the best of it, saying no is not really a workable option. In class they complain that they don't really like it much - but, as I said, they are great sports and make the best of it. Gotta love em! At least I do.
