The Hmong hill tribe in Laos was recruited in 1961 by the CIA, to fight a "Secret War" against the Communists of North Vietnam. Their job was to try to block the Vietcong's supply route.
Known as the "Ho Chi Minh trail", it ran through Laos, along the border with Vietnam. More than 40,000 Hmong were killed in the fighting that followed.
When the US fled Saigon in 1975, Communists also seized control of Laos.
The Hmong, abandoned by the US, allegedly became the target of retaliation and persecution.
This marked the beginning of the mass exodus of Hmong refugees into Thailand, which eventually swelled to more than 300,000.

Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley trekked through the jungles of northern Laos to find this dwindling tribe, the first television journalist to do so.

The only way to help these people is grab amos and get into the jungles of Laos. Stop crying for the white men or UN because they're kissing LPDR's arse.
Man!!! how can they help themselves when there's nothing there to even help yourself!!?? Also What if you were being hunt down like that what would you do??
well, you don't actually know where you're going.. How would you know how to find villages and town?? while you're middle of a jungle?? You got no map??
ok...tell me this then, how did the white guy find them..out of luck?? im pretty sure these people havent gone so far out into the jungles as i understand there are still many unexplored places in laos and thailand. How did they seek for help?? How did we find our ways across northern asia and spread throughout the south...time probably was a factor but how long have these folks been supposedly out there...no wonder we hmongs dont have a country...were alwase hiding under others.................
alwase asking for help..."Ask not what they can do for you, but what you can do for yourself"; "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". we came to the U.S. and look!!! the majority of us are still on welfare and ssi....Land of opportunity; sit at home, live on a fixed low income, and do nothing but live like kings?? No!!! Lets put an end to our ancestral miseries and get to the top..
the ho chi minh trail. according to 1945 the viet minh was establish from Viet Bac across from the north to laso to fight with the french foreign legion in vietnam, thats how the war was started. is not only our pples was suffering but all over the world are suffering the same we did. our pples just a little part of the human kind that was suffering.
Would you rather want to save someone elses family in a war or your own? if other people suffer, its up to their ownkind to help save them. when the time comes and we have saved the hmong in laos, i will remember our allies, the Khamu, leu, and Eke. i will help them the best i can when we go.
