2005 Cataract Canyon High Water 1

Oar boat on May 27, 2005. Footage shows right-side run through Big Drop Two and dump-truck in Satan's Gut (Big Drop Three).

These videos were taken between May 24 and May 30, 2005 from the top of Big Drop Two (Rapid 22). During this time, the river's flow ranged from 55,000 to 69,000 cfs.

What was that flow? I was there at 55,000. The last private group that went through flipped 4 of 5 boats, and a guy lost his thumb on the chicken line, that wasn't you guys was it?

Unfortunately, I don't have any details about this video.. I just moved it over from a Park Service Page to a more video-friendly site! The only info I have is in the info, which mirrors the NPS site. But losing a thumb, yeoch!

Man, that's the second thumb lost there in the past decade--weird. The other one came off a guide.

This bigger than I ever saw it. At lower water the holes are avoidable but you best damn avoid them or be tight with the river god of your choice. -- ghd
