3 lenses:
Sigma 17-35
Canon 28-135 IS USM
Canon 100-400 IS USM L

Also I tested how they behave with and without Image stabilizer. You can see the difference is awesome! It's actually the reason I sold my Sigma 50-500 and bought the Canon 100-400L with IS.

Hope this vid. is any use to you people out there!

  • I am debating between the Sigma 50-500 and the Canon 100-400...that big of a difference??

  • @Langfordc Well it depends on what you want. Shooting video or in low light? The stabilizer will help! Do you want more versatility? The 50-500 is awesome with it's range.

Sharpness wise: yes the 100-400 is way better. But to be honest... if you print at A4 paper or show it at webpages.. you won't notice the slight blur. Only at 100% crops. But how often do you do that? I NEVER did that.

  • you did it in the worst location you could find... light doesn't help at all... can't note the difference between the lenses...

  • If you can't note that then get glasses. Mostly it was for friends that don't know what the number of MM is about.

Also it shows the IS mode perfectly. So for those purposes it serves well.

If you want to check the quality of the lenses you should take pictures on full rez anyway... duh.

  • Its kind of hard to tell on still shots but on video you can really see the difference! Also, Grand Theft Auto III music!

    Thanks for posting

  • Yeah I was amazed too, made me sell my sigma 50-500 and buy the Canon IS 100-400..

On pictures you can tell too.. go at around 100 mm or so, shuttertime 1/10th... have fun with and without... there's DEF some difference there! :)

  • i am choosing between sigma 70-300 dg (without vibration reduction) and the nikon 55-200 ( with vibration reduction) or the sigma 50-200 ( with optical stabilized), i prefer shooting nature and wildlife, which lens would you recommend me??

  • @stevegek: hi from singapore... I am thinking of getting the 100-400 lens but a bit stuck as I cant find a lens at that range with a f2.8 except a Sigama 120-300... anyway.. could you help by sharing any photos you shot at night with the canon 100-400??

  • Fullscreen??? I would like to see it in proper 16:9

  • @stevegek - i have the canon 75-300 IS now...and would like something with a little better quality glass and a little more range. I shoot mostly video with my 5Dmk2...but also a lot of photography as well. My video goes evenly to web and BluRay...so you would definitely see the blur on BD.
