Lou Curtiss, San Diego musicologist and owner of Folk Arts Rare Records comments ""Actually the words to this song and most of the Chatmon Family songs were written by Sam Chatmon. Walter Vinson was their neighbor and a member of The Chatmon Family band ("The Mississippi Sheiks") and a bit of a hustler. Lonnie Chatmon wrote
the music & Sam the words & Walter somehow got credit for much of Sams work."
