Here are a couple of videos I made recently -- quick and dirty -- on how to fish the Red River in Fargo. These are the basics as well as I learned them from forums, from videos, from advice, from reading, and from experience. Hopefully it will be helpful to other fishermen and women learning about fishing the Red River of the North. Numerous thanks goes to all the advice I read at www.fishingbuddy.com-- thanks for the tips!

  • Sonuva... the first hook I use _isn't_ a Gamakutschi hook -- it's a Team Catfish 1/0 circle hook...

  • When I was a kid we used to call these things "Bullheads" and would throw them back in the river. No one actually wanted them.

  • Well, there is actually a difference. Bullheads normally don't break the 10lb range, much less the 5lb range. Also, they have a flat-ended tail, whereas channel cats (like the one in the video) have a forked tail. Other than that, I think channel cats put up a better fight overall, but both fish are reputably just as edible. The only cats I really "don't" want to catch are called stone cats, or willow cats, and are basically 4 ounce baitstealing fish.
