The road hasn't always been peaches and cream, know what I'm sayin'. Before you judge,check out "Heart Full Of Soul", he's been through a lot...also, when you see him live, you can tell, he FEELS every word. Look up "The Maze" in Orange Beach...let me know what you think. Haha, the "everybody skate" thing has kinda stuck with this song since rehearsals, kind of an inside joke. His fans love it. He's not everybody's cup of tea but this middle class white boy does have soul.

There were MANY times when his dad had to work a second job to make ends meet. Hard working family all the way. I dig me some Booker T, The Rev and will, by Taylor's recommendation, be checking out some Sam and Dave. Idol HAS crapped on him which is why I am THRILLED he's free from them. U wouldn't be trying some posing as a Soulster yourself, would you? Idol crapped on him? Because he sucks. I also don't know who you are referring to... but most enduring artists write & produce their own material - emphasis: THEIR OWN MATERIAL - and/or they have other writers/artists itching to pitch stuff at them. Gone are the days of the traveling troubadors who'd keep playing whether or not the money is coming in or the girlies are screaming at their tight jeans. Reminds me of the Bread song "Guitar Man." Taylor isn't exactly a minstrel/artist who produces art by nature. It's glorified karaoke.

I'm sure there is a reason I've never heard them. And, don't care to. It's just funny to me how many females are on here gushing about his looks. Mempho.........Taylor does play guitar and harmonica and has written songs on his first two albums, and some are pretty darn good. If you saw him in concert, you would see how well he orchestrates songs and arranges them. The band is under his control. I am not trying to change your mind, it just happens that I love many artists and he is the first in years to spark that feeling in me. Many of those greats became famous through promotion not because they sang so well.

Oh - there is a HUGE difference between an ARTIST & a PERFORMER. Tremendous difference. Taylor Hicks isn't an artist. He is a performer of other people's songs. But, not a good one at that. He vocalizes, but not in tune. He doesn't write or play an instrument. ARTISTS ENDURE. Performers come & go. Reference previous comment regarding "15 minutes of fame" (Andy Warhol quote). Don't throw around the term "artist" so loosely. I also see a lot of posts cooing over Taylor's clothing & appearance. (?)

Those who are no longer with us don't have to be here to perform them live. I've never heard Taylor do justice to anyone's songs. They're way off tune & he dances like he's having a Grand Mals seizure. Nothing personal. It is fact that about 90% of the AI winners aren't exactly experiencing exalted careers now. Most of their "15 minutes of fame" has expired - save Carrie Underwood (she's blonde & cute; her saving grace). AI is simply a media juggernaut who champions karaoke-esque performances.

Givin' my comments thumbs down.... ONLY because you know it's the truth. There are so, so many talented real musicians out there who aren't mainstream only because they haven't experienced the luck of a juggernaut media machine to expose them to the masses. If only people used their own efforts to seek out music that is worthy of their time instead of relying solely upon the media to legitimize a small group of "flashes in the pan." If this truth hurts you, sorry. But, it is the truth.

Wow! I can't believe people who run down young artists who try to better their careers. All of those artists you all mention went up the hard way too, then got a break. I remember all of them. Most of them are gone, though great, and the new generation has to replace them. Be glad someone like Taylor Hicks loves them enough to want to sing their songs in the 21st century.
