North south hit in a game between the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues on Thursday, November 4th, 2010 at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri. It appeared to be a missed call, there was no intent to injure.

    I'm really not seeing your argument, here, that this was a dirty hit. Thornton could've easily made it even bigger hit than he did by skating towards Perron (thus increasing the relative velocity). 100% of the force of the hit came from Perron. He was looking backwards for the pass that everyone in the game is told not to make from the time that they're 6. Thornton played it very gently. He didn't aim for the head, didn't leave the ice, and didn't blow him up with an elbow or a stick.

    Big Shark and Thornton fan, but that was pretty much the dictionary definition of a blind side hit. It was not 'north-south' like in the description but a 90 degree from the side. Other player didn't see it coming. Principal contact was the head (mostly).

    Drew was a homer on this call. Penalty deserved.

    That being said Thornton is not by any stretch a dirty player. The 'questionable' plays in Joe's career you could count on one hand.
