@drmnez My high school used this rudiment in a snare solo so it has been used. I'm sure Blue Devils, SCV, Cadets, someone has used it. Most lines use book reports and this is only slightly different. Not to say you're wrong or anything but it's a pretty sweet lil rudiment. :-)

The Doctorial Thesis, just might possibly be the single most retarded rudiment ever.

what exactly is a grid?

y the flam after a diddle? it cool to play it don't get me wrong, but this seems to be one of those impractical rudiments. A line would never play those.

@drmnez Yeah, I'm fairly positive no actual drumline has ever played this. It's just an extension of the book report (sliv) to try to make it impossibly hard. It almost is. It takes a lot of finesse to play a good quality flam after a diddle (which isn't necessarily the case in this video...but if you look at some of the other doctoral thesis vids I've done, is). That finesse is a good skill to have. Just because it's impractical from a performance standpoint doesn't mean you shouldn't try it.

@optsyn actually yes many line play this hybrid rudiment. its called a "book report"

@LivFreedom No, this isn't a book report. It's close though. This is a "doctoral thesis". The difference being, rather than a tap on the "e", there is a diddle. The thing that makes this one a little more difficult than the book report is that you're playing a diddle into a flam.
