My partner keeps the birds really well-fed in our backyard. His sparrows are gigantic and numerous. They wheel around like a biker gang. This is the third time we've seen a hawk in our area. I think my partner may be inadvertently feeding the hawks as well...
Sharp-shinned hawks hang out in Toronto on the way to their winter grounds.

  • When we were in Ottawa we checked out the new bird section in the Museum of Nature and this thing is way too huge to be a sharp-shinned hawk...I still haven't figured out what it is....Maybe your idea of a Cooper's is right.

  • Round tail. It's a coopers hawk

  • It's a juvenile Cooper's.

  • It's either an immature male copper's hawk or an immature female Sharpshinned hawk. They love to stake out bird feeders in the winter
