This video was filmed in french, having known it would have ended up on youtube it wouldn't have.
This video was shot October 2nd, we wanted to cut down a tree interfering with our quad-mounted boat rack. the tree was about 3" in diameter, pretty humid wood. The knife had already seen some minor abuse. First impressions were that the knife is overly heavy for what it is, not nearly as strong as the lighter, sharper, smaller, and yeah, more expensive spyderco paramilitary. It never was razor sharp, even brand new, unlike the spyderco which had cut down a 3" tree and still kept a shaving edge. Edge retention was So-so, similar to SOGs' AUS8. But SOG's heat treatment actually seems better.
although it looks extremely tough, the elegant(but 3x the price) spyderco paramilitary was able to sustain cutting down a tree and still manage to be razor sharp, while the CRKT broke in several places. The pivot unscrewed itself, the liner lock bended, the safety broke, a G10 panel cracked, and most of all, the thick tip managed to break while under normal abusive pressure.
All in all, for the price, the CRKT is a good, medium-duty knife, that is wrongly overbuilt. It is overly bulky, way too heavy, has a OK steel, an OK lockup. I did not like the serrations, although they did the job. What makes up for it all, is the amazing opening options, the emerson-style opening method, or the flip way.
If it were slightly smaller, half the weight, had better steel( think S30V, 154CM), a deep-carry pocket clip, available in full flat ground with or without the serrations, and wouldn't have this weird safety, it would be a no brainer. Oh wait, CRKT do sell such a knife.
Knife didn't fail. More like the idiot using it in the video is a failure. Not even using the proper technique. What a couple of slapdicks.
