I saw Angela Lansbury in MAME...WOW

What underbaked choreography! I can understand the choice of this number as Ginger wasn't much of a singer and this featured her dancing. But what a shame the choreography couldn't have been built up for her. How awkward to have her standing on the sidelines clapping while the dancers do simple attitude pirouettes.

Loved it! Thanks! :)

Why couldn't I have been a young adult then? I wasn't born yet, but those days were so much better, and even black people say this the supposedly "oppressed". People had manners and charm back then. Now people don't even have a sense of right or wrong.

now thats what I call a show stopper !

How fun to see this - I'm lucky enough to have a live recording which is really poor and always said it was Julia I could hear - now it's confirmed!

Yes I never fail to get emotional after the dance break when the sopranos take over. Ginger is lovely and yes you can definitely hear Julia McKenzie on the highest note. In a word thrilling!. does anyone have footage of Julia in "On the Twentieth Century"?

It ends up in the key of A major- the sopranos belting out a top c# on the last chord- wow! I agree the choreography is a bit lame- but then, it's pretty typical of English choreography- you know.. the men always seem to be sticking their thumbs into their braces while doing high kicks on alternating legs- see movie versions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins,Oliver etc etc etc

BTW.... Miss Rogers was 58 at the time of this performance. Splendid.

Ditto for me.. this made my day, evening and glorious end to this year. I saw Angela on stage in Mame 1966 Broadway and then when she took it to Los Angeles. Never had the opportunity to see Ginger and was never sure how she would have been. Now I see this rare bit and my heart was delighted. I grew up watching Rogers/Astaire films and think she was the most brilliant, elegant and beautiful dancer/singer to ever grace the Silver Screen. Thank you.
Oh wow thank you! Besides getting to see fantastic ginger, I think I can spot amazing Julia McKenzie in this clip at about 4.57. Does anyone else think that's her? She played Gloria in this production but I don't know if she would have been a dancer in this number.

@jasperdog1 Yes, that certainly is Julia Mckenzie. You can hear her voice so clearly and for a clearer view, see her at the very end centre stage.
