In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.com - Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, talks about the need for record labels and the industry at large to return to the practice of letting new artists have time to develop. He also touches upon how "singles driven" today's music consumer has become, and the effect of that mentality on record companies.

blackwell is spot on in this video. the general public doesn't appreciate the essence and artistic importance of the concept of the album anymore...but rightfully so. the quality of music has dwindled significantly over the past decade because the industry itself has gotten greedy, when in the end revenue is down more than ever. the only way they can get back to where the industry used to be is to make better, more meaningful music, which means making better albums as a whole
