We converted an ordinary projector screen into an low-cost interactive screen by using just a webcam.
The Dodge Squad and Robo Dodge were used as demos during our "Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam" project presentation.
The projector and screen are ordinary ones like any others in our labs. A webcam is used to detect the presence of any lightspot (ex: from a laser pointer) on the projector screen. A program running on the computer then finds out the position of the lightspot on the screen and uses this info to position the computer's mouse cursor.
This is demo video#5 for the "Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam" project by our Audio-Visual Project lab, Elect. Eng. Div, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore.

Would this be effective in back-projected screens with the camera behind the screen? Lets say if you only use the laser pointer.
Also, what sort of camera are you using for detecting the IR?

The part we don't play with things-that-explodes and don't host wares/any-morally wrong websites..
