George Packer and Christopher Hitchens talk about George Orwell and his work. Mr. Packer selected the pieces that appear in two recently published volumes of George Orwell's work: "Facing Unpleasant Facts" and "All Art Is Propaganda." Mr. Hitchens, essayist for The Atlantic Monthly, is the author of "Why Orwell Matters."

  • Hitchens interviewing is just wrong! You can tell how hard it is for him to keep quiet.

    He suffers like a Ferrari owner at a red light. LOL.

  • Can you get C-Span on British TV?

  • Thanks for posting this. I watched the full version at c-spanvideo(.)org/program/292035-1

    An enlightening conversation between two very intelligent and well educated people. The only thing that was bad about it was that it lasted for only one hour and was only on one topic. I felt that Hitch enjoyed having this talk with George because George is actually on Hitch's level when it comes to erudition, at least on some topics.

  • Hitch could talk for hours about Orwell so its charming that he has the courtesy to take the back seat in this interview, and funny that he sometimes forgets what the respective roles are. but it ends up a nice balanced discussion between two smart guys who agree and are affectionate towards the subject;

  • Hitchens is a force of nature in other arenas but as an interviewer.... It is fortunate his powers are better used elsewhere.

  • @fubintien Thank you very much.

  • @Coriolanus1970 Here you go: cs[dot]pn/cAOWEn

  • @fubintien have you got a link for the complete program. Thanks.

  • Just watched the entire program on the BookTV site. A fascinating discussion by two very erudite and eloquent writers.

    Also really interesting to watch an interview with Christopher in the driver's seat!
