After getting used to some of the tools that make Pulse Audio work I've decided that it's good. It might be a major resource hog, but It's worth it to get the awesome pipe anything into anything type framework.

As soon as my video card comes in I'll make a video on how to configure your Pulse Audio framework.

  • Better than Jack?

  • In some ways yes. Jack only seem to play nice with other Jack applications however Pulse will connect to any ALSA or ESD apps. I'm sure someone is working on it, but I hope they connect Pulse to Jack applications. That could open up some serious doors.

  • You're getting good results with cheese, with my logitech quickcam pro 9000 I dont get the clarity unless I use the highest resolution but then the voice-video sync is well out. I think Pulseaudio is ok too, I've not had a problem with it. Someone gave you a poor rating, whats the matter with these people, there's nothing wrong with your video.

  • I actually have the Logitech Communicate STX. Sometimes I have to adjust the sync of my camera by converting the theora file to a avi with ffmpeg and adjusting it with avidemux.

  • In my experience it has caused little but frustration. With this latest version of Ubuntu 9.10 it is more integrated than ever. And with no obvious way to switch over things in the system prefs sound; like in older versions. I had to use synaptic to get rid of it completely. Only then did everything work correctly.

I want them to keep developing it absolutely, but I don't think it's ready to be the primary system in a distribution as widespread and with an average experience level like Ubuntu.

  • Pulseaudio doesn't work correctly for me. Some applications I must run using aoss to avoid sound lag or no sound issues.

  • It still isn't working for me. It crashes on me every two days, so I have to remove, then reinstall it so it will work again. Plus, I'm far from the only one having issues with it. ALSA just worked. ESD just worked. Why switch to something that even the developers of the software knew would be buggy?

  • I agree

I use multicast to "broadcast" music streams to the rest of my computers in the house, playing synchronised music through multiple computers is awesome.

And it works great with amarok =D
