  • When I got retained in Kindergarten, My father was so disgusted with me he ignored me for a long time, My mom acted like it was the end of the world, My two sisters called me flunkie every chance they got. Yeah that was a bit hit to my self esteem.

    I'm sorry to hear that Mike. I too was retained when I was a kid and it was a rough road for my self-etem as well. I can totally understand where you are coming from, which is why this should always be a last resort.

  • I started Kindergarten late, it's almost like being retained but not as harmful. FYI, your with your peers from the start. A late start to kindergarten is sometimes confused with repeating but is totally different.

    In Texas, they passed a law where if a student fails a certain test in 3rd and 5th grade a student has to repeat the grade. Just glad it wasn't there when I was in 3rd or 5th grade.
