Matt Benge, a student at UNC Charlotte, shows off the virtual Courage High School he and his classmates created in their Secondary Education 4140 course taught by Dr. Heather Coffey. In addition to Matt, the other students who worked on this presentation are: Abby Stone, David Madorin, Lizzie Delong, Janel House, Corey Elvenstar, and Tyler Beard. The students visited Levine Museum of the New South in October, toured the COURAGE exhibit, and participated in New COURAGE dialogues. They then incorporated their experiences into their coursework, resulting in the creation of Courage High School, which they believe can be a model for how schools can be improved to better serve special-need students and students from ethnically diverse backgrounds. This presentation was one of several pieces of student work on display during New COURAGE Day at UNCC on November 30, 2011.
