Unreal - (01) Vortex Rikers

Unreal, a game developed by Epic Games and released in 1998, is one of my favorite first person shooters ever made. It combines excellent combat with a interesting storyline and adventure in a vastly impressive living and breathing world; in a league way beyond games released in the same period; yes, even my all-time favorite game ever - Half-Life.

It's quite amazing that this is a little more than 11 years old now. Even for that time the graphics still hold up to this day; especially the impressive lighting effects that is easily recognizable in this video.
Even though technically it's an impressive game it's visually even more impressive in my opinion; small to enormous maps doesn't matter, every single one is pleasing to the eye in its own way.

The story is that a human vessel called the "Vortex Rikers" carrying prisoners, the galaxies worst no less, crash lands on a unknown planet called "Na Pali". One might think it's a peaceful planet by the looks of it, but looking more closely at it it's far from peaceful.
You take the role of one of the prisoners, "Prisoner 849", and have to escape the vessel, explore the planet and find a way off it before whatever lurks in the shadows doesn't end up taking your life.

About the video - I'm planning on doing a full walkthrough from beginning to end on the Hard difficulty; don't worry I've completed it on Unreal difficulty so I'm experienced with it.
Also don't think I've quit doing the Blood videos; I just posted this video now to see how it looked on YouTube.
Lastly, I made it so that I open up any Translator messages I come across for a few seconds so you can, if you wish, pause the video to read them all. That is if you haven't played the game before and want to get a better understanding of the story and what's happening around you. Otherwise just ignore them; enjoy the video either way.

This must be the best Unreal playthrough on here. The author plays well but without undue hurry, giving the viewer plenty opportunity to take in the scenery and read the translator msgs, which is an important part of the gameplay, IMO. Excellent picture and sound, but the best part for me is that the author actually took the time to provide intelligent and insightful comments on each and every video in the series.

Superb work that deserves six stars. My hat's off to you, sir!

Thanks! It's always fun to read when people enjoy what you upload. It only makes me want to continue making playthroughs of video games for you guys to see.

Usually when I record videos I try to play as calm and slow as possible without rushing; personally I'm not very fond of players speeding through a level without having a look around at the scenery, which by the way is a huge part of the overall experience with Unreal.
