Thanks for the reply. Placement of hands depends on the method used at the time to calibrate. For those who first learnt some 20 years ago, I would not be surprised if when they are given the situation to use CPR that they go directly to something they learnt then (human nature). Whilst teaching here in Aus. I work on the principle of not bearing the chest unless you have access to a defib. I like what you're doing in helping to keep everyone informed. It may just save a life.

. As well, the most important thing in sudden cardiac arrest is the time you spend doing compressions, each time you stop pushing on the chest you have stopped the flow of blood and you have to start all over before you gain enough pressure from compressions to start perfusing the heart again. Ventilating the patient is more important when the cause of the arrest was from hypoxia, ie drowning, suffication, narcotic drug overdose...

It is easier to landmark where you place your hands and stay in place if you bare the chest. As well, an AED will need to be placed so the chest needs to be exposed. More and more public places have AED's now so any 911 call will prompt you to use one if available. The patient is being ventilated by the changing pressure in the thoracic cavity when you do compressions.

a little different once again since the change in 2010 (re: the initial 2 breaths), however, there is still no need to bare the chest when using just cpr.Question: along the lines of the sylvester method of old (equated to about 10%) ;how much % of oxygen is now getting in
