Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), excerpt from `Deposuit' from the `Magnificat' in Vespers (1610), played by Murray Campbell. Made for use at a pitch nearly 200 cents above modern pitch (A = 440 Hz). The silver bands are probably not original, but were fitted in addition to the leather covering to hold the two parts of the instrument together. Lent by A. Myers. This instrument belonged to the late Christopher Monk, and previously to Philip Bate (3189).
