  • The mech suit currently is an idea. Naturally, it seems pretty absurd trying to balance all the heavyweight armament on to a single bipedal structure. What people are hoping to achieve with mechs is not technological superiority over tanks but rather, an apparatus that the human structure is most familiar with, hence the bipedal legs. A mech, by potential, could move in more diverse terrains than a tank on treads.

  • @vietanh797 And when one country is up against another country with comparable tech level then it is GUARANTEED that both will do their best to prevent air control by the other side. Even if they cannot match the air power of the other side they can still exert air denial at least over their own zone of control with ADS supported with their air force.

An army that CANNOT function without air dominance is an IMPOTENT army, and relying on it is naive to say the least.

  • @ozoneocean

Not to defend too much the idea (when will show-maker understand that mech vs infantry is good enough ?) but you still have to bring those (heavy ?) missiles into usable range.

There is many reason you wouldn't be able to launch them from an helicopter.

Personally I'm a believer of the "support role" for Mechs.

  • @lilmurfer "Similar defensive specs"? How? Do you know how much surface area a humanoid body has compared to a simple box? And you have to armour ALL of it. To even be comparable to a tank, a mech would have to weigh twice as much. The problem is, a humanoid structure cannot support even HALF the weight of a modern tank, let alone four times that much.

  • Putting the mechanics aside, the Tactical Armor (TA), if ever developed, would be very practical in modern warfare. Especially since modern warfare is heavy on Urban warfare. If you watched the 2nd episode of the series, you'd know what I'm talking about. Also, as shown in the series, maneuverability is much better than any other Armor (Tanks, APCs, etc). If one can develop a TA with similar armament and defensive specs as current Tanks, I see no reason why one should prefer a Tank over a TA.

  • The problem about people that debate about realism on Youtube is that they only know Physics.

This concept has very little to do with physics, and more to do with Computer Software and Synthetic electronics. Not saying this mech stuff will happen, but it is 100% possible in the future. The reason why it's not possible at the moment the lack of processing power to a reasonable scale and the constraints of present battery tech.

  • it would prove difficult to give the mech suit air flight capabilities but in the end it would have its advantages. i think the first step to a mech is making sompthing like a starcraft terran marien suit. then the rest will fallow quicker than one would think. and dont even try complaining about what might be used as a fuel source. we all know that lithium bataries and a high grade generator would do the job.( i actually might have some ideas on this.) ps I love mechs.

  • well if they want to make it about missile effectiveness/superiority then some aircraft might come into use, they would be fairer opponents for those mechs, the tanks are outdated against something like that. tanks arent anti mech.... aside from the absurd formations, great animation and scene in general.

  • @IonoTheFanatics Indeed. Oh, and let's not forget about Reign of Fire or Dragon Wars. You have no idea how pissed I was when the military can't even win against a bunch of dragons... :P

  • @xReadOrDiex retarded, given any sensible person with an inkling of military knowledge knows that ships like aircraft carriers travel in a carrier battle group, where the carrier is escorted by full complements of frigates and destroyers to screen the carrier from threat of air or submarines.

and a carrier with no CAP aircrafts protecting it is equally dumb.

made my head hurts... next they'd show nuclear submarines attacking frigates on the surface with guns.

  • @IonoTheFanatics Funny thing is, this Tank vs Mecha match is just as worse as that TU-22 Backfire vs The USS Nimitz Aircraft Carrier video with no additional Aegis Cruisers backing up, from The Sum of all Fears.

What did you think about that clip from The Sum of all Fears?

  • The best weapon here seems to be the smart-missles. that manage to tightly manoeuvre around the tanks in all directions and get at the weak points.

Those are actually doing ALL the work here, not the fancy mechs, not the tanks. How silly.
