Hamar, NORWAY - 1994 Winter Games, Ice Dancing, Original Dance ("Rhumba") - Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean of Great Britain won this phase while earning two 6.0s for Composition & Style. Dean had opted to choose the slowest tempo allowed by the rules for this dance and choreographed a masterpiece. This dance was so effective that the ISU used a modified version of it for a Compulsory Dance. Now, THAT"S a compliment! They would move up from 3rd to 1st Place going into the Free Dance.

Torvill and Dean are legends, and you know they're icons when the ISU uses your dance for a CD. This is amazing. They're always crowd favourites, so polished and creative. THAT, ladies and gentleman is why they're the only team to receive straight 6.0s. Even more impressive is that they were out of Olympic eligible skating for ten years!

Actually, Navka & Kostomarov of Russia earned straight 6.0s at the 2004 Worlds in Dortmund, but I don't really count that because it took place with an interim judging system, and also because of the fact that since the judges knew it was the last competition under the 6.0 scoring, that they were giving them out like candy.

I don't remember the straight 6.0s for N/K, but I think you're right they were overzealous with 6.0s (and the judging at those worlds was all over the place). Torvill and Dean, however, earned every one of their 6.0s through their career.

I'm sorry...THESE people should have one the gold instead of that other team who was a hot mess!

Still gives me goosebumps to watch them. This music is so them. Costumes are just beautiful and I loved that little wink Chris gives Jayne at the beginning of the program.

scootie, I absolutely loved this dance. If there was any mistake here, it is beyond my abilities to catch it. GB (and by that I mean all countries in UK, no offense to any area) has a great tradition of peerless ballroom dancing, and in T&D, we see this carried on. Ice dancing has changed over the years, but in many ways, there is T&D, and then there is everybody else. I am excited about several young ice dance couples now, and am sure they have watched a lot of T&D vids.
