Changed the strings to .013 Heavy Gauge.

Trying to get that thick SRV tone.

Amp modeled after Fender Twin Reverb.

  • Nice tone bro!

  • @imapkn Thank you!!! It's about time someone did their homework. I get so tired of people saying " oh he used 17's or 20's. Bullshit!! 13's for a while then down to 11's once he sobered up. Stop the cock measuring contest when it's not even your own. Thanks imapkn for settling this.

  • a strat is not a strat with gauge less than 12 and the g string unwounded...

  • 'Tone' is not something you can have 'more' or 'less' of. You can just have *different* tones. Thicker strings just sound deeper because there is a louder fundamental frequency and quieter overtones. This is not better, it's just different. There are guitarists with great 'tone' using anything from 8s to 13s. It's almost like the 'megapixels' thing in cameras. "My tone is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND!".

  • I can understand using heavier gauge for EAD, since it helps them to sound in tune, but I can't see the benefit for GBE - it just makes it harder to do bending/vibrato/legato, and makes you more likely to injure yourself so you can't play at all! I use 9 11 16 26 36 48 and it sounds fine.

  • if you want to hear the difference between big and little strings........Pluck your high e string constantly (steadily) then have your other hand down tune the string down slowly. At the end it sounds horrible. If you tighten it, it sounds better.

So if you tune your e string to a b, it won't sound good. If you play heavy metal with fuzz, it could work.

Another thing to consider is that the string tension also rises when you raise the bridge. It sounds better but it's harder to play.

  • these strings guages are so bad for you fingers....

  • does the 13 gauge string break easy under that tension

  • PLAY THE MOTHERFUCKER !!! Stop pussyfootin around !!!!

  • It’s so nice to see music bringing people together; what do they put in the water over there, steroids? SRV tuned down to Eb, so all this macho posturing about ‘reel heavy strings dewd’ is just that, posturing.....when you detune to that extent it feels like you’re playing light gauge strings; it’s about tone not tautness dearies.

  • I play 11 gauge exclusively, nice to see others playing around with higher gauges. Almost a necessity for some SRV purest!

Only I dont really play blues, more rock. But rock on brother, nice job.
