Actually this is a very natural effect caused by the twilight reflecting off the Mekong river through the trees. You can see the same thing as a result of the flickering light of a fire. Things of similar relief are highlighted as the light changes direction, thus giving the illusion of movement. This is stone age stuff; it doesn't take much of a brain to observe and understand.
