The British had been in India as rulers for nearly two hundred years, building splendid palaces and monuments all over this vast country. Today many stand silent and deserted, but in the 1930s it was all very different. The Viceroy, as representative of the King Emperor, headed the government of the part of the country known as British India. This programme contains loads of archive footage from that period and is narrated by John Tidmarsh in a highly interesting and informative way.

  • Another good video from Hijazna!

  • thanks

  • Well the British Empire was the greatest empire in history, and contrary to popular belief.. extremely liberal to its colonies in comparison to other empire building nations such as Spain, Portugal, France and the Netherlands hence we held onto it for about 100 years longer. We also brought serious development to the colonies rather than just exploiting them for the benefit of the "motherland"

  • @rexboyrox : I'm not sure how that entered as a reply to your comment. A total accident! It was certainly meant for TowerHamletsNeil

  • @SlovenskyRaj My apologies, but i had reasons to believe your comment was made against me since you left the comment "Did you go to college? Because you are really naïve." on my comment thread. Perhaps you should try leaving comments on TowerHamletsNeil, the one who you strongly disagree with.

  • @rexboyrox I was aligning my opinion with yours, you silly person! I think perhaps you should re-read my message. Why are you attacking someone who agrees with you?

  • @SlovenskyRaj I think you are the idiot here. How is this video a propaganda? It is an educational history video that simply show the facts. For example, in 1919, British soldiers killed hundreds of unarmed Indian civilians during a protest at Amritsar, India The same content can be found in other historical sources. Not just made by American filming companies. And yes I am an university student, but that is none of your business.

  • @TowerHamletsNeil All great empires don't wish to reveal their darkest history. You forgot to mention the social injustice many Indians faced under the corrupted systems ran by the British. Many Indian people were ill treated and isolated from the social and economical barriers created. How about all the violence the British soldiers used to put down protests? If life were so perfect under the rule of the British why did Gandhi fought against the system?

  • This video is valuable like diamond. This is rarest.I was looking for such things since long.
