I swapped out the stock humbucker (which honestly wasn't too bad... very clear and punchy) with my old High Order humbucker. The HO is an 8.3k asymmetrical wind with an A2 magnet. I like the slightly loose low end.

Also replaced the stock small chrome knobs with big heavier ones to help give a bit more weight to the guitar. I actually don't need to do this because the stock form does not neck dive... just that the extra weight makes it feel more familiar.

  • Hi,Re:Guitar.Do they sit on your lap comfortably, or do you need a strap?

  • @loub54 well, yes it kind of does, though it is neck heavy. There isn't much room for the forearm (of my picking hand) to rest on the guitar body so that takes a bit of getting used to. Otherwise, sure...

  • Nice playing by the way and nice bloomage..with A2 you give up some punch and bite but in return get more depth and complexity...the notes seem to bounce out at you.

  • @bootlegapples Yes, you're right. Quite different from A5s.

  • How does this pickup sound clean?Does it have any sparkle?I'm interested in purchasing a High Order humbucker, low wound(6-8k) for a crisp response and clarity.

I like the bloom of alnico 2 but am leaning towards an almost scooped sound(more easily done with alnico 5 tho)...dunno if he can make that pickup for me of not.

    Thanks

  • @bootlegapples Hmmmm... I like how it sounds clean but be reminded that the Traveler is a small bodied guitar so the cleans sound quite small/thin? If it were a Les Paul, cleans would be more robust.

As for sparkle, yes for a humbucker. There is a nice brightness to it.

Email high order, he is usually very helpful and clear with his replies.

I intend to do another video of the travler. :)

Thanks for the info...I will place an order for some pickups(reasonably priced for custom pickups too)from High Order.

As for the traveler I think that the body not being a big slab of wood is part of it's character.I plan on taking that trait a step further with a guitar I am building, that is to say I will hollow it out down to a 1/2 inch or so.It should give me a hollow body/solid body hybrid tone and give additional/controllable sustain at higher volumes.
