Heh Heh. No. In the US the Granny Smith apples are a brilliant green and very sour. I use them to make pickles :-)

Thanks Oldernwiser. I just tasted the dried mangoes and they have been dried from sweet ripe mangoes I think. I'm not near any Indian shops unfortunately. I have amchoor powder(mango powder which tastes very sour. I'll experiment a bit and let you know how it goes.

Try Granny Smith apples where raw mangoes are not available.

sorry if i sound dumb, but is Granny Smith Apples a store where they sell raw mangoes or are you suggesting substituting the mangoes with Green Smith Apples ? thanks for enlightening me and my viewers in advance .. :-)

oops ! sorry, i hadn't noticed such a serious omission.. the volume of the salt is usually equal to the volume of red chilli powder..a little more or less depending the saltiness of the salt ( as yoou know, some salts are more salty than others ! ) thanks for pointing out .. cheers ! :-)
