This year the Statue of Liberty celebrates its 125th Anniversary; and one may not know, Lady Liberty was the first lighthouse to be electrified and was the most famous lighthouse in the world!

When the Statue was first erected, it was put under the supervision of the USLHS the "SUPER" Depot for all lighthouses in the country, based in St. George, Staten Island, New York.

The National Lighthouse Museum commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty with a Festive Celebration. Join the National Lighthouse Museum Board in the Sky Box at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Sunday December 11th from 2-6. The waterfront stadium gives spectators a great view of the Statue of Liberty. Join the National Lighthouse Museum's tribute to the Statue of Liberty. Special Guest, renowned artist Gregory Perillo will be signing his poster of the Statue of Liberty at the event.
There will also be Raffles, gift baskets, and miniature lighthouses for sale.

Staten Island won the bid in a national competition to locate the National Lighthouse Museum in St. George at the old U.S. Lighthouse Super Depot site which became a Coast Guard Station.

The purchase of the Romer Shoal lighthouse by Eltingville businessman John Vincent Scalia has given the museum a big boost. The board is raising funds to open a pilot museum in Building No. 11. With "a space of our own," board president Linda Dianto anticipates more funds will flow in from businesses and foundations and the museum will expand into Building No. 10.

A short walk from the Staten Island ferry, the museum has the potential to attract a wide audience. The history of the site as the country's original depot for equipment for lighthouses and its proximity to 15 area lighthouses situate it strategically for the mission of preserving the significance and heritage of lighthouses throughout the nation.

With a sweeping view of the harbor and the Narrows, the site can support historical, educational, cultural and recreational programming. For more information on this event or to order tickets please call 1-855-NLM-SINY or look for the postings on Facebook at the National Lighthouse Museum. Tickets are $50 and includes 2012 membership to the 2010 NationaL Lighthouse Museum.
