Shawn Michaels was more comfortable on the mic, and was capable of having more spectacular matches. But, it is Michaels own point about how Bret Hart worked hard every day, 9 to 5 for the business, giving his all in every match, whether it be a wrestlemania match against stone cold or a house show against the patriot Bret Hart was always consistent and dependable. Michaels would show up for the big events and perform, but for his own benefit. Its hard not to take Bret's side during this feud

Shawn is awesome on the mic, there ain't nobody that can compare.

Lol 2:40, you are a ZERO, my HERO.

I always liked Bret's promos. I never thought they were horrible, but they weren't great. During this time, the fact that he was more old fashion and not edgy like Shawn Michaels was here really came off kinda bad. Like every Bret promo during this feud, Shawn and Hunter just laughed at him, because his material was a little stale. Just part of the times changing.

@gobacktoalaska Brett's promos where terrible but his matches where good.

@slayerde440 Bret was really realistic with his promos! I loved them! Shawn is too over the top.

@1981bigdee Shawn WAS far from that. Shawn had to be in there with the right guy to have a 5 star match. I really don't know what the knock on Bret's promos were...especially towards the end of his career. Granted, he was never a cartoon...and really maybe that's what I found so appealing. It made it seem more real to me...as opposed to guys I hated like Warrior and Hogan. I'd really credit the WWE victory over WCW more to guys like The Rock and Stone Cold than I would Shawn.

@slayerde440 And it seems that you're too ignorant to realize that Bret wasn't the be all and end all of wrestling. Shawn was an amazing talent and unlike Bret he could actually cut a promo. Yeah he had his drug problems but when he cleaned up and returned in 2002 he hadn't missed a step. Shawn was the guy who held WWE together right up until his retirement. Bret could make a match with a mop look real? I agree. Shawn was far from that? Now I think its you who's on the sauce...

@theShowStopper321 Are you fucking serious? The same in '97 as he was in '88? You're damn right Bret worked just about every night...he was dependable, reliable and consistant. The man could make a match with a mop look real. HBK was far from that. Showing up drunk, high, beat up, ect. Shawn had Vince wrapped around his little finger. Bret was one of the greatest innovators in the history of the business, you're probably too ignorant a fan to realize that there was wrestling before the 1980's.
bret's promos were really kinda bad. shawn's promos were so biting, loved it.

The thing is Bret was a great worker, but he was a guy who was just that; more of a worker than a shot-caller. He could wrestle and make shit look so real and intense in the ring, but Shawn had exciting, different, high-energy matches when Bret was the same guy in 1988 that he was in 1997. This interview was aimed at personal attacks by Bret and Shawn...HBK had a creative mind and presence when Bret would be called upon to "work every day" as HBK said while HBK sets the bar.
