You criticise "atheism's failure to account for existence" as though you have somehow accounted for it by saying it was done by magic.
That isn't a good argument among grown-ups.

"Atheism leads to unscientific and irrational dark-age thinking"
So instead we should believe a book when it tells us that a cosmic jewish zombie who fathered himself can make us live forever if we symbolically cannibalize him and telepathically commit to worship him forever, so that he can remove an evil force present in us all because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
..
....
Right.

Life has no meaning, Big whoop. I find my own meaning, and for me it is better then just being good because I fear of punishment from some Deity. I am here for one purpose, to better knowledge, to help progression, and to better my children for when they are born into this world. To make sure they better their lives, aid in the whole of humanity. I am a gamer, and in SC, No one Marine is important, all zerglings must help to ensure victory.

Heh, heh. Hilarious! I assume this is a parody, right?

@JesusforLife2 Why do you accept that god can be eternal but not the universe? Why do you require that the universe has a creator and not God? I don't understand your way of thinking.
You do understand that Atheism is nothing more than a non-belief in a deity, It has nothing to do with how the universe was created.

Science doesn't state that the universe "created itself", or that it originated "from nothing".

makes contact becuse atoms are negatively charge and repulse eachother? the simple act of observing an expiriment changes the outcome? who knows what stange things lay ahead in the world of science!? why are you so resistant?

For a start Hawkings is making his statement as a scientist & not as an Atheist (even if he were one). Atheism (rejection of religious claims) has absolutely no doctrines & makes no comment on the beginning of the universe. The beginning of the universe is a total unknown & the only dishonesty is from those who claim to know without the slightest piece of supporting evidence.
You say "something cannot bring itself into existence" I agree but you cannot make any god an exception.

So you claim to know it is unknown, ok........... Skepticism as a means is fine, but as an ends which atheists use is willful ignorance.
[You say "something cannot bring itself into existence" I agree but you cannot make any god an exception.]
Im not making him the exception, I never said God brought himself into existence.

@JesusforLife2 "So you claim to know it is unknown, ok........... Skepticism as a means is fine, but as an ends which atheists use is willful ignorance."
Nope. We just get annoyed with people who calim to know the cause with an air of authority but with no evidence. That surely is a standpoint that merits to be challenged.
"I never said God brought himself into existence." HIMself? Why "HIM"? So you must be saying that something else brought god (why do you assume just one) into existence.

You must be annoyed at yourself for claiming it wasn't God without a shred of evidence. I know I am.
[So you must be saying that something else brought god (why do you assume just one) into existence.]
Something that which has no beginning and always was cant be brought into existence. Are you really having trouble understanding what eternal means?
