What about bimetal strips instead of paper ?

Yes! I have made these engines of bimetal. The bimetal was made of paper and cello tape or cello tape and aluminium foil, or paper and aluminium foil. These were jointed. It run from sun also.

Hi, there is an explanation and video on puskas engine home page!
Paper strip bends when is near damp. Here I glued together a papper strip and paper sticker strip, so it is bent. I made two it. So those are like as this. ( ) I put a rod those among. (--) Cloth carries damp near to strip from a jar. (--)]
When strip bend gadget balance shall be change. Gadget shall spin.
