A gripping 17th century retelling of the final moments of the philosopher Lucius Seneca's life. Ordered by blood-thirsty Nero to kill himself or face execution by the centurion's sword, Seneca opens his veins in a warm bath and spends his dying breaths opining on the nature of truth, constancy, evil kings, and immortality.
Good stuff.
This recording was made live in Asheville, North Carolina as a part of the Echo Early Music Festival.
