It's a lot easier to sing the words to this slower version. Is that why they recorded so many instrumental arrangements of this song? Did people do early karaoke? Maybe that's why there are so many different versions of the words.
But I can only play this when nobody's around. My employees (and my family) find it highly disturbing when I suddenly belt out "Ooooooh MURDER! Still....it was nice..."
My Rainier Jazz Band recorded this in 1986, with our vocalist Ron Rustad - Lena from Palestina! LOL. "She got fat as she got Lena playing on he concertina!" Whoa. I think it sounds best with my TUBA and at this slower tempo. LOL. Our Banjo Player Professor Gene Silberberg brought this to our band from an ancient recording he found. It has been played by a select number of bands ever since including also my Wild Cards Jazz...Amazing how that works. Looking for the Vocal version. RAN
Fantastic post! Since I am particularly interested in these early German Fox Trot recordings, this one is a gem for me. Amazingly well played at this early stage, and totally different from all other early versions I have ever heard. Thanks a lot for this one!
Terrific video in every way. I agree with D: try some strong red horseradish (chreyn)and you'll cough so hard you'll be cured! If that doesn't work, try a mustard plaster on your chest. That was my grandmother's great remedy.
Oh G', you brought tears to my eyes with the theme and the illustrations. I listened to it a few time while watching. The Dubek cigarettes ad bring special memories to me: my father used to smoke them. But all the posters are exquisite, as is the exotic tune. Hope you feel better. If the chicken soup didn't help, try a tablespoon of chreyn :) (horseradish in Yiddish)

In my country flu is cured with some tequila and sour lime.If it doesn´t cure the cold, it makes you forget you are sick.
