*Backup everything important just in case Windows 7 has issues backing up your stuff (Should work though)**Download the latest BIOS (before you install Windows 7 RC) and upgrade using Asus Update. Get the BIOS here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us (found under bios).*

Read this guide to install Windows 7:
http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/installing-windows-7-rc-straight-from-the-...
I recommend using 7-Zip instead of WinRAR, but either one will do.
When installing Win 7 just use the C: partition unless you know what you are doing. Win 7 should back up your Windows XP files. Installation of Win 7 takes about an hour.

After you got Win 7 up and running, there's a few drivers you need to get. Get them here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us (put your model number in and chose WinXP!)

Get all of these:
-Super Hybrid Engine (Found under utilities)
-ACPI Drivers (Found under ATK section)
-Touchpad Drivers (Found under Touchpad)
If any of these installs don't work, run them in compatibility mode, by right clicking it and selecting properties. Then hit the compatibility tab and run it in XP compatibility mode for XP SP3.
-Graphics Card Driver get that here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductI...
(Yes it should be Vista!)

NOTE: You will not be able to use 1024*768 compress or scroll. I don't know why, but I will update as soon as I find the solution.

*NOTE* - You will not be able to boot Win XP anymore using this method. You will have access to your Win XP files though.

That should get you up and running with Windows 7. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask and I will TRY to answer them!

*If you would like to dual boot XP and Win 7 just use the method above, except install it on the D: partition instead*

  • How did u install it without a cd / DVD drive

By the way I got same laptop :)

  • @MegaAkad When the final version of windows 7 was actually released I purchased an external CD/DVD drive and installed windows 7 that way. I think windows xp is best for the 1000HE though tbh. I'm on XP now.

  • i had been running win7 on my 1000he for 3 months now and everything is OK, i even think the video performance on youtube is much smoth than in XP. PD: OBVIOUSLY 2RAM upgrade

  • @cuchooo I'm running Win 7 also, but the only thing that kinda ticks me off is not having the 1024x768 scroll support like windows XP has. I only have 1024x600 and 800x600.

  • This is still available on:

    downloadblinks . c__o__m

  • @BloodyClaymore that very true, i forgot that, the moniter is supose to support 1024x768, in some web pages you would have to decrease the ZOOM so you can display it, i guess we will have to wait for asus

  • Glad to have been of assistance.

  • See my comment below regarding re-installation of the hybrid engine in Win XP2 compatibility mode. If you install using this method it will work correctly. I've been using this system running RC 7100 for some months now and have experienced absolutely no problems at all. I've also tested RTM 7600 on the machine and it also works perfectly.
