Kammerchor Altensteig sings Aus Tiefer Not by Mendelssohn (Part 1 of 2)

I'm happy to present Kammerchor Altensteig singing Felix Mendelssohn's beautiful motet Op.23 No.1 "Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu Dir" in the Kilianskirche of Heilbronn on Saturday, October 10, 2009, conducted by Matthias Wurster. Kammerchor Altensteig won an important German choir competition in 2008, and has had the opportunity to sing Schuetz, Gabrieli, and Monteverdi in THE St. Mark's in Venice!

Kammerchor Altensteig reminds me of International Orange Chorale (www.iocsf.org). It's four years old, made up of 30 young volunteer singers (well, 29 young singers plus me), and although it's not affiliated with any school, many of the original members were graduates from the same high school in Altensteig. The choir was founded to provide an extension of their good school choir experience in an area where there simply was no similar chamber choir previously. I think that both IOC and Kammerchor Altensteig are capable of the same level of repertoire, and have similar taste in music. I hope we can someday do an exchange.

Matthias Wurster teaches music in high school in Nagold (Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium) while he pursues his advanced degree in Conducting at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen. For more information about this exciting choir, please visit http://www.kammerchor-altensteig.de/index2.htm
