@LoveKittyChan Because the locals really believed in the pentagram and its protection. The Americans are outsiders and the last thing a person wants is to be seen as the foolish and superstitious type. So they took personal offense when Jack and David mocked albeit jokingly about the pentagram and saw it as a reflection of how they (Americans) viewed them the locals.
