Leonard Little Finger & Mission of Love

Leonard Little Finger, great-great grandson of Sitanka (Chief Big Foot) explains how Mission of Love Foundation has aided the people of Lakota Country. Sitanka was leading his band of Mniconjou to safe haven at Red Cloud Agency (Pine Ridge) in the wake of the assassination of Sitting Bull. Considered hostile, because they were traveling without the permission of the US Military, they surrendered , were disarmed and subsequently massacred at Wounded Knee Creek.
Leonard is an educator, Lakota elder, and founder of Lakota Circle Village and the Sacred Hoop School in Oglala, SD. The Sacred Hoop School is dedicated to Lakota language preservation and teaching the traditional Lakota values and principles to elementary aged children.
While Leonard discusses some of the differences in values between the Lakota and the majority culture, he emphasizes the common bond that tie all beings.

However many years have passed enchained upon the rez, I ~ Cannot, WILL not, see the Lakota, nor any tribe, as some kind of charitable cause. You are blood ! You are Native ! you are LAKOTA ! In heaven's name you are as gods besides those of western culture. Ask Nothing of them, for it is ~ Not ~ theirs to give.
