By "getting started", I assume you mean with diving. It's very easy. Sign up at your local PADI school and just "go for it". It's very easy. My grandson qualified as an Open Water Diver aged 10. He has now done 30 dives and is not yet 12. You can qualify in under a week. Once you've qualified, try to get as much varied diving as possible so you build up experience and also continue your diving education. This year is my 39th year as a diver since I too began as a teenager.
