Tried bill&becky pickups (obl, keystone, 280, 290 and humbuckers) in a variety of guitars with ash, alder and mahogany bodies. the single-coils all share a clear glassy brightness, and all eventually got uninstalled - they can be "too much of what they are" but YMMV. I still use a Lawrence humbucker in one of my ssh strats - it's an amazing complement to single coils and kicks on its own.
I finally got around to installing these. Very nice. Not real high output, but very Strat sounding pups. By themselves they are quite full, but to me they really seem to lose quite a bit in positions 2 and 4. I guess that is how they are designed. They sound good by themselves though, so it is a tradeoff. The bridge p/u is typical Strat bridge, so-so. Nowhere near as ice-picky as others I have played, but still could have stood be to be a bit stronger than the others.
@poeman333 Please let me know what you think of them.Don't forget with these pickups the distance from the strings plays a big part in the tone.I like mine the thickness of one nickle from the high e string and 2 nickles from the low e string for the bridge and just a bit farther away for the neck.......Ron
@bubbarcj Thanks. I've got mine finally and just have to find the time to install them. I'll be using 250K pots a well, with the tone controls being no-load pots, so it should sound similar.
@poeman333 Hi,sorry for the late reply. These are CTS 250K pots turned wide open. Thanks for the kind words and Tell Becky and Bill I said hi and how much I love these pickups!!!
I've got keystones in my strat. Do the L-45s sound fuller and rounder? I find the keystones are really nice but a bit zingy and strident in my setup.
