@149impala No, they ran the plates there in May of that year in the Winston 500. This is the second race with the plates at Talladega.

In terms of the "modern" era (as in post Bobby Allison's crash) of restrictor plates in Nascar, then this would be the second plate race at Talladega. The first would be the Winston 500 that was run earlier in the season this (1988) year. ;^)
