Antonin Dvorak, a nationalistic composer from Czechoslovakia, was lured to New York in 1892 to the newly founded National Conservatory of Music. He was enthralled by what he saw as our nationalistic music. He infused the nature of Negro spirituals with the spirit of Native American Indian tunes into his work. His Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" was composed during his first year in America and has become one of the most popular orchestral pieces in the classical

Kamuela Philharmonic. January 6, 2008 at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea Conductor and music director Madeline Schatz.

  • I don't like being critical because this piece is so beautiful, but the conductor changed form for almost every measure. I would have a very tough time following her.

  • Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin listened to this movement moments after they landed on the moon, July 20th, 1969. They admired the lunar surface as no two other human beings ever had before them with this playing in the background. TRUE STORY.

  • This always makes me want a sandwhich

  • @biggtk Thanks for sharing! Going Home by Libera is a Great Piece!

  • @ewinenger I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but the theme played by the cor anglais is very much similar to the hobbit theme of the lord of the rings.

  • @discouniverse Where is the beauty? If you were born in Czech Republic, Slovakia, or any middle- European country, you would know where the beauty is. When i close my eyes, I can see clearly all the things I did as a child. Playing on beautiful meadows, running through high grass, listening to the river, playing with dandelions, getting wet in warm summer rain, eating raspberries and apples... Unless you lived through this, you will nut understand. Just please, respect others..

  • MISS YOU DAD XXX

  • This is the most universally beloved movement in the annals of music. Every music lover ranks this as his/her favorite.

  • @ewinenger You talking about the Cor anglais solo (theme)???

  • Antonin Dvorak.....was für ein Meister....was für ein Mensch....

    Maestro.........

  • If you want to listen to a beautiful singing rendition of this song, look up "Going home" by Libera. You're life will change forever! Trust me.

  • @ewinenger not sure if it's in a Disney film, and sorry to be pedantic, but its a Cor Anglais not an Oboe.
