There actually was a snow and freezing rain on the XL/early IntelliStar icons set, so it would have been interesting to see it back then/on an XL.

@weatherlover32 Yes it's possible, we had a nasty icestorm back in Jan. 2005 where most of the precip was freezing rain, but there were brief periods of snow mixed in.
